A Rich History:

The Ozark Mill has stood as a symbol of resilience and community for nearly two centuries. Built in 1833 by James Kimberling, the mill served as the heart of the village, offering essential services like mail delivery. During the Civil War, the mill was used by Confederate forces, and after the devastation of the war, it helped rebuild the local economy.

After being destroyed by fire in 1922, the Hawkins family rebuilt the mill and constructed a concrete dam that powered the mill until 1992, making it the last commercially operating watermill in Missouri. In 1993, Johnny Morris, founder of Bass Pro Shops, purchased the mill and began preservation efforts. Today, it stands as a testament to the region’s history, restored with the help of mill experts, historians, and the local community.

The Garrison pays homage to Howard Garrison and the historic Riverside Inn, which was a beloved local landmark. Known for its parties and the defiance of Prohibition, the Riverside Inn became a symbol of the community’s spirit and resilience. The Garrison restaurant reflects that same energy, offering a cozy and spirited atmosphere for modern diners.
